International Medical University (IMU)
The International Medical University (IMU) traces its origins back to 1992
when it was established as the International Medical College (IMC),
Malaysia's pioneer private medical college. Transitioning to a university in
1999, IMU has maintained the fundamental principles of the original IMC
vision. This vision is centered on broadening access to professional
healthcare education and employing innovative, integrated, and
student-centric approaches to deliver education.
IMU's commitment to this vision necessitated the establishment of strong
partnerships with reputable medical schools sharing similar educational
philosophies. The university's progressive, systems-based, integrated
medical curriculum garnered interest from partner universities in
Australasia, North America, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. This
collaboration extends to pharmacy and health sciences programs at
prestigious institutions in Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and China.
Since 1999, IMU has focused on developing clinical schools and expanding its
own honours degree courses in Pharmacy and Nursing. Research has become a
core activity, accompanied by the introduction of postgraduate
research-oriented Masters and PhD programs. The university's growth has been
supported by substantial investments in infrastructure development, faculty
recruitment, and the introduction of innovative degree courses such as
Dentistry, Nutrition & Dietetics, Medical Biotechnology, Psychology,
Biomedical Science, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
IMU continues to pioneer new programs, including Chiropractic, the first of
its kind in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, and the Chinese Medicine program,
blending medical education and scientific research in both Eastern and
Western medicine. Currently, IMU offers a range of undergraduate and
postgraduate degree programs, reflecting its commitment to progressiveness,
innovation, and excellence in education delivery and assessment.
