Assistant Nurses
Nursing assistants, also known as nurse aides, orderlies, and geriatric
aides, play a vital role in patient care. They work under the supervision of
registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and other medical
personnel. Nursing assistants have significant interaction with patients,
providing essential personal care tasks such as bathing, feeding, and
dressing.
Additionally, they assist with various support duties including patient
transportation, vital sign monitoring, bed-making, aiding patients in
mobility, and responding to patient calls. Nursing assistants may also be
tasked with setting up medical equipment like X-ray machines and irrigation
bottles. They are responsible for observing and reporting patients'
responses to treatment.
In nursing homes, nursing assistants are often referred to as geriatric
aides. They have extensive contact with residents, fostering ongoing
relationships and providing compassionate care. Successful nursing
assistants exhibit teamwork, the ability to follow instructions, emotional
stability, and patience.
The issuance of Registration Certificates, Registration Statements, Badges,
and duplicate badges to assistant nurses is overseen by the Malaysia Nursing
Board.
